Les Fisher
The rock steady drumming of Les Fisher is second nature to a man who is a second generation star of the skins. Les picked up the sticks as a child and his talent was natural and inevitable. He grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan listening to the play of his drummer dad, who had been a star with the legendary Count Basie Orchestra before starting his own big band orchestra, which Les spent several years playing in. Les's crisp vocals and songwriting talent got a jump-start from his mothers side of the family. Eve Renee Fisher was a professional singer who tourerd with bands in the East and Midwest before raising her family. If you closed your eyes, you would not believe that the soulful and smooth voice that you are hearing is coming from the same man that you see laying down the groove. Les's notorious backbeat in "The Live Music capital Of The World" has given him the opportunity to place his groove with musicians such as Patrice Pike, Bob Scheneider, and Vallejo. He also toured through Texas with legendary saxophonist Ronnie Laws. It is obvious while watching Les's awesome, high energy drumming performance that he always gives 110 percent whether he is playing in local bars or on a national tour. Les has been sought after for national tours by Sophie B. Hawkins, El Debarge, and George Clinton Parliament Funkadelik. More recently Les has been touring the West Coast and Midwest with the L.A based band, The Boneshakers and Randy Jacobs, former member of Was Not Was. When not touring, Les is back in Austin working hard at his original band, Chamber 36. Chamber 36 was honored as the 2001 winner of Austin, TX's South X South West " Schmoozefest" with Best Single " Red Sun". Les's band also was selected to feature on the KLBJ 93.7FM Paradise Travel's " More Maui Madness Event" in Maui, Hawaii. Les's versatile, laid back attitude has a way of putting other musicians at ease, whether he is playing with an abrasive rock-n-roller or a smooth gospel singer.
Rashay "Ivory" Sister Kisslinger has brought a classy and refined brand of romantic soul to The Funk Mob. Her multicultural fans are captivated by the allure of her sultry and soulful voice and the emotion she adds to each song. Rashay's powerful and righteous sound started early as she was influenced by her daddy's collection of R&B. Very quickly the influence expanded to not only R&B, but jazz, gospel and traditional pop. The Funk Mob lovingly refers to Rashay as their "secret weapon", and once you experience her sound, you will know why. She can soar through a melody with aching clarity and just as quickly switch to a strong funk groove. Originally from Beaumont, TX, Rashay has spent most of her early singing career in and around Houston and Austin with a few tours more recently in Las Vegas, NV and New York, NY. Currently Rashay lives in Austin, TX where she is one of the very few female vocalists that can legitimately lay claim to the term "Diva".
The featured male lead vocalist in the band is Te'rell Shahid. He also plays drums, sax, keys and bass, depending on the song. He comes from a long list of bands which he has been part. He started at the age of 16 in a band called Porsche' and went on to play with bands such as "Strategy", "8 Is Enough", "The Bizness", "Dino Lee", "Groove Line", "Legit", "Taboo", "Overlord" and currently "Les and The Funk Mob" just to name a few. Ter'ell also has an Original project of his own and hopes to land a major label record deal soon. (Keep Prayin'). In the studio, Ter'ell is also known for his production skills. He was mentored by LB or Larry Brags (singer -"Tower of Power") and Derrick Edmondson (producer - "Jody Watley") who are both formally pioneers of The Bizness. Ter'ell has worked with people like Yoggie Muscgrove, Malford Milligan, Lisa Tingle, Kyle Turner, Tyrone Vaughn, Jahborn (Eryka Badu's On and On), M DocJenny Jones Show), Mahogany (Ja Rule), Overlord, Bavu Blakes (Create and Hustle), Lil Black, Scar Face, Lil Rascal (Grape Tree Records) and many others not mentioned here. As you can see, Te'rell is a busy man but not too busy to have fun with his partner Les Fisher in the new super bad band the Funk Mob. Steve Greer Born in Dallas, Texas, Steve "Britannica" Greer began singing and "clattering" on anything by age 3. He first purchased an acoustic guitar at age 11 on an east coast summer vacation. He spent the next 9 years teaching himself to play styles like rock music (Led Zeppelin, Hendrix, and Pink Floyd) jazz/fusion (Return to Forever, Elektrik Band, Tribal Tech) and eventually funk. His eclectic tastes in music were first nurtured by his parents who would eventually go their separate ways. His mother chose the acapella vocal stylings of Sweet Honey from the Rock, Manhattan Transfer and Negro Spirituals. His father stayed close to his jazz/rock roots which left Steve somewhere in the middle. By the early 90's, rather than just focus on one instrument, he became more and more interested in the arrangements. He began with programming an old drum machine to back up his fretwork. By the time he was 16, he was making his own 4 track demos with a guitar and a drum machine! Feeling restricted, he picked up the keyboards at first to back up his guitar work on tapes. Eventually, he started becoming more interested in producing/arranging music than guitar shredding. In his time, at the Colonel White High School for the Arts in Dayton, Ohio Steve was a part of the school's first jazz ensemble. He receieved the inaugral version of their Woody Herman Award for Composition. It wasn't until he spent time in the Midwest with some of his childhood heroes that he began to truly appreciate his gift for hearing music. Sugarfoot, of the Ohio Players once told him that he had never heard anyone pick out his riff on "Love Rollercoaster" correctly before me and he was floored! From there Steve went on to meet more founding members of the Players, Slave, and Heatwave. He even did some seesion work in studios owned by the late Roger Troutman. He believes that through all of these experiences he has been able to establish his own style. A merger of early rock and gospel cooked up in a jazzy funk pot. |
